youth ministries & formation

Sunday School age

We are excited to introduce two new youth programs this fall:

Bethany: J.O.Y. (Jesus--Others--You!) every first Wednesday of the month toddlers to 6th grade are welcome to ride the bus to Bethany (have blue slip) and experience JOY 3:30-6:30pm. Supper is served at 6:00pm. This year we will focus on the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)!

Pilgrim: SPARK KIDS are for toddlers to 6th grade and we meet at select times throughout the month (schedule....). Our focus is learning about God through Scriptures and Service.

We have found that offering traditional Sunday School does not work for today's families. We no longer offer Sunday School on Sundays. Thank you to Cindy Johnson for teaching Sunday School for the past 13 years!

Serving The Community

Pilgrim and Bethany are known throughout the area for rolling up their sleeves to serve others. In particular, the youth have ministered to people and community in various ways:

Work with the Humane Society

Help others shovel/rake leaves

Raise money for causes

Confirmation students complete 20 hours of community service.

Vacation Bible School

Every summer VBS is hosted at each church. It is a rockin' week of activities, singing, diving deeper into our relationship with Jesus, and just having fun with friends.

Luther Point Bible Camp

Our churches are partnered with Luther Point Bible Camp and each year the church provides camperships and other aid to make sure everyone experiences camp!

FORMING FAITH, POINTING TO CHRIST

Baptism

At Bethany & Pilgrim Lutheran, we believe in faith by grace and therefore encourage the baptism at any age--infant-adult. Baptism is a sacrament in which promises are made on behalf of the person being baptized and the church as a whole. When the baptized is an infant, a sponsor or Godparent is appointed to speak on their behalf.  To ensure that parents, Godparents, and the baptized understand the significance of baptism and the promises made, we require participation in catechism courses with the pastor. These courses, held over two meetings, will cover the theology of baptism and include both discussion and practical elements.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a journey toward publicly affirming one's baptism and faith. It is a two-year program that starts in the fall of 7th grade and continues through the fall of 9th grade. There are various opportunities for fellowship, learning, serving, developing life skills, attending camp/synod/national events, leading (as shepherds to the younger kids and ministers in worship as acolytes) and formation.

Growing Together in Faith means we are ALL always learning, this is most certainly true!
